carry-it-all clutch

breaking news! i found a clutch that can actually hold more than a measly two credit cards and one lip-gloss! shocking, i know.  but you better believe it, this floppy, leather American Apparel pouch is such a perfect 'toss everything you need in and go' kind of purse.  here paired with an infinity scarf, another one of the world's easiest accessories, and corduroy shorts, i wore this out for a casual drink or four.  at first i wondered how i would carry this no-handle, no-strap purse, which now the ways there are to clutch my new clutch are seemingly endless.

easy to hold, however, not so easy to get my hands on on at first.  this bag was in super high demand this summer. it was only with a little determination, and a few firey conversations with customer service that i was finally able to place an order.  so don't be afraid to let the crazy out the girls to get what you want. your in need and any smart business will do what it takes to fulfill that need.  coming in a variety of colors, you may find yourself buying more than one, and don't be alarmed, this is completely normal behavior. we chose a pale rose pink and a robin's egg blue. but you must jump on it once you have decided because they are literally, and obnoxiously, flying off the shelves.

Rue La La for Washington, DC

so if you aren't a member of this e-boutique sale site, you need to be, starting now.  they are one of my favorites because they work with such a wide varitey of designers, which is key for me.  there tend to be minimal places where i can't find atleast one thing that i like and that i need to own. a large range is good to have when it comes to who hangs in your closet,  and then of course there are going to be the standard repeat offenders scattered about as well that will forever make the clothes that make you say "they just get me." exclusive, designer sale sites are an easy way to find everything you need in one place for great prices.  others such as Haute Look and ideeli top my lists as well. if you aren't a member and are in need of an invite to any of these, please dont hesitate to ask!

so today Rue La La is doing something a little different, and something that i happen to think is really neat and needs to be taken advantage of! for only a short time, you can buy a super reasonably priced, exclusive tour of Washington, DC and all that it has to offer.  for anyone who would like to learn more about our nation's capital, from everything from music and pop culture, to art, or architecture, you should check this deal out. not to mention, DC does have some of the greatest boutiques, so maybe if your nice enough to your tour guide you can squeeze in at least some window shopping. happy online shopping!

my space

<< my little office >>
so i thought about it and, if i'm going to expect you to read and care about what i have to say, me being no different than the next self-proclaimed fashionista, the least i can do is let you get to know me a little better "behind the scenes," per say.  so this is where i spend most of my time. whether its that i'm getting ready, paying bills, or blogging, i enjoy my little space.  it's the little details that make it my own.  typically i'm all about simple interior design, where everything must have its place and everything must match ofcourse.  but this is the one place i find it acceptable to be submerged with "stuff."

1.  victorian style lamps, used hardly for lighting, given i already have ceiling lighting.  one is strung with necklaces and one is a part-time hat rack for my new floppy hat.
2.  a stack of books that are next on my list of reads.  right now i am reading "Eat, Pray, Love" and next will be Russell Brand's memior "My Booky Wook."  Simultaneously over the next year i will be reading "Bridesmaid Companion" which my cousin gave me in prep for her wedding next September.
3.  i have an infatuation with Stella Dot jewelry, and i love the boxes they come in.  every box has a really cute, ego-boosting saying on the inside when you open it up, like "you've got smarts and style" or my favorite, "hey gorgeous." they keep my jewelry in good condition as well as decorate my desk space with their bright colors and fun patterns.
4.  photo's and keep sakes, such as a poem my boyfriend wrote me and a few pictures of us from our college graduation and our summer at the beach. he is my biggest fan and gives me the encouragement to chase any goal or dream i may have, as they may vary from day to day. i am a very lucky girl.
5.  an old film camera. because obviously i love photography, but i really cant wait to shoot with this camera because the uncertainty of how the pictures are going to come out is so exciting! also, i think film gives a photos that rustic, old school look.
6.  framed inspiration boards.  i think its important to be surrounded by things that inspire you so i fill these two frames with clippings from my favorite store's catalog of the season, and my some of my favorite photography shots.  right now i have a collage of clippings from a Free People catalog and photos of two of my favorite things,  the beach and roses.
7.   small moroccan decorative bowls, which hold my jewelry.  one for gold, and one for silver.  i believe everyone should embrace their heritage and never neglect where you came from.
8.  and a homeless kitchen table chair, which is not only to sit in, but i use to display my newest purchases on while i am deciding if i am going to keep them or not. i am sort of a serial returner, due to my chronic impulse buys.  right now hangs a Michael Kors toffee clutch.  it's adorable, but it's super flat and doesn't seem like it will fit much inside, which i find to be a typical downside of many clutches.

i think my desk is decorated nicely, even if it does conflict with my typical design standards.  it's made up of the things that remind me most of me.  and my favorite part, which i realized just from doing this post, is that almost everything on it has a dual purpose, for looks and for use.
what kind of stuff do you keep in your work space?
do you have any items that not only look good, but you have found functionality in as well?

all styles of monochrome are popping up everywhere right now, from the streets to the runways, the fashion gods have done it again.  our favorite stores, designers, and even celebrities are already embracing one of fall's hottest trends, and it is personally one of my favorites right now.  the combination of simple, yet eye-catching combinations of pieces from all the same color spectrum absolutely infatuates me.  you can layer a mixture of slouchy pieces of different textures for a soft look, or go strong with super tailored pieces, like the DVF above.  design geniuses including Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Michael Kors, and Tory Burch have all included the look in their fall collections, and I cant wait to add some great pieces to my own collection.

Monday

festival fringe

music festivals and fashion have been positively correlated for decades.  they are the one place where I think no one is afraid to cross the boundaries of acceptable clothing and expose themselves in things that they probably wouldn’t wear on a normal day in the life.  it’s a fashion free-for-all where bras can be dubbed for shirts and it is all about feeling the spirit of the music.
the practical side of festival fashion is that these shows usually take place in the midst of summer, so in order to dress for the weather it makes sense to bear more skin and less fabric.  as much crochet and see-thru clothing is necessary.  the main trends taking over festivals this year include retro neon, 70’s boho, and anything that looks like it could have been worn by an American hippie from out West. this year I embraced festival fashion rules with super short shorts, a seventies-esqu, crochet & fringe top, and some hippie jewelry.  it was simultaneously practical for the ninety degree weather as well as festival-chic and I had a blast while wearing it.

{How To} day to night in a dress

day.
to night...
i am typically very avid about wearing something only once, but this dress allowed for multiple uses.  and thank god because it is one of my favorite dresses and i would wear it everyday if that kind of thing was acceptable.

Wednesday

back to school

it was a fun idea to take a stroll down memory lane and visit my old high school.  my boyfriend and i explored while i reminisced about the good 'ol days, when the most stressful situations in my life consisted of deciding what to put on in the morning. and when if i wanted to be excused from life for the day, all i needed was a note from my mom. oh, to be young again...
so this dress is suppose to criss-cross in the back, but if you skip a step while putting it on, it comes out like this.  i enjoy the personality the criss-cross brings to the front of the dress, and then the bareness it leaves in the back. there's nothing more sexy to me than a bare back.
i love a form fitting top half and then a bottom half that flows. this is very flattering if your on the shorter side, like myself.
floppy, soft leather.  nothing better for a daytime purse.
like i said, i adore the low back.
accented with gold detailing from my purse and some new bracelets

Sunday

part two

pinot grigio and more pinot grigio, it's what brings us together.  ok, i am not serious. we are the best of friends, but lately many of our best times are over a nice glass of vino and i don't think either of us are mad about it.  we've spent the majority of our summer nights on the back deck, comparing bug bites, over drinks, listening to our favorite jams, and having our best laughs.  its been a very fun past three months...
