February 2012 - The Fashionably Broke

a little black dress

Everyone needs at least one or two (or five) little black dresses, right?  They are just those staple pieces that can save pretty much any last minute fashion emergency.  In Erika's case it was a little black crochet dress, that when given the chance of a Free People employee discount, the only decision left to be made was did she need it in black or cream, or both.  Though I can only imagine the selling point was the not-so-little, bell sleeves, because how amazing are they?  (I'm pretty sure I was meant to grow up in the seventies, someone was confused).  But I am mostly obsessing over the possibilities of how many great looks are going to come from this little black dress.  Picture this gem paired with a great pair of suede boots and a floppy hat, for a fabulous daytime look!  Or, totally channeling seventies glam, with a mini-dress, Twiggy moment.  I am literally counting down the days until Erika moves home and I can finally make an appearance in it myself!

scalloped edges

i work for the weekends and wearing the fun(ner) stuff in my wardrobe, like my shorter skirts and a more socially acceptable sized purse.  some of my favorite bags just won't cut it during the week.  if it can't have everything i use to get ready in the mornings shoveled into it, we have a major problem-o!  because that's totally me, the girl who doesn't really wake up early enough to do her hair (i default to buns and braids, or just the messy look, far too often) and who is doing full eye make-up at every right light, eye lash curler and all.  the weekends are really my time to play around with the clothes in my closet, get dolled up, and truely embrace my own personal style.

i've worn that sweater countless times since i got it (great buy, a slouchy sweater) and i purchased this leather moto jacket for it's soft leather and extra floppy collar.  the sweater is perfect for that soft & cozy, go-to outfit for work. but i try to save my tougher, leather peices for the weekend, as they probably aren't as office friendly as i would like them to be.
