Pareos (sarongs) are the perfect summer companion. Being lightweight, stylish and versatile, I make sure to always have a few handy. Thanks to my French grandma, I’ve always had a pretty great selection. She always had a different one for every suit, which she would wear on our family beach vacations. Erika and I would play dress up in them all of the time! I can only imagine she was the most stylish girl on the beach back in Morocco. And she almost always still brings us each one back from her travels.
Even though my collection of pareos is ever-growing, I was in Target and fell in love with this classic black pareo with this cute, pom detail. It’s perfectly sheer, to show enough and cover enough throughout the day as you move from one thing to the next. Last weekend I lived in it at the Outer Banks – from the beach, to the pool, to a BBQ lunch and afternoon margaritas.
There are multiple ways you can tie or wrap a pareo, I’m sure I haven’t even figured them all out yet, but there are even more ways to style them up using summery accessories. Especially with a classic, black pareo, you can let the accessories really do the talking. Jewelry by the pool is a total must-have for me, if done right. I’m drawn towards gold pieces that look great against a tan. A wide brim hat is a pareo’s best friend – The two together give that perfect, resort-chic look. Then, finish off the look with a pair of leather, slide-on sandals and a complementary beach tote. If you have more ideas for styling your pareos, please send them my way! Happy pareo-ing!
