We always expect to have an enjoyable and relaxing time when we head west, but we didn’t know we would enjoy it this much. After one weekend at Luray Modern, we were blown away. I didn’t want to go home. Luray Modern felt like home.
It’s thanks to Glamping Hub that we even discovered Luray Modern. Glamping Hub is your guide to uncovering a new way to connect with nature, whether it be in your own backyard, across the country, or even across the world. With over 8,000 unique properties, you can easily search this online hub and find your very own outdoor, luxury glamping experience just like we did!
Luray Modern is a 1850’s farm house and its owners, Jay and Ryanne, spent three years turning it into the dream home that it stands as today in Luray, Virginia. It was no longer than a few hours that we felt all of the love they put into it wrap around us like a big hug! And the love was mutual.
When we got there we immediately kicked ourselves for not inviting some friends or family with us, the house seemed so big for just us. But we always have a great time just the two of us and getting to bring the dogs with us was really special. Glamping Hub is especially great because they offer plenty of pet-friendly accommodations within their special Glamping With Pets booking tool as well.
While there’s plenty to do in Luray, we barely even left the house! As I said, the owners went above and beyond to make Luray Modern feel like home, so you never had to leave. We had plans to explore some of the hiking trails nearby and tour Luray Caverns, but instead agreed that we would rather enjoy the house while we could. In the house, we had a fully stocked kitchen with everything (and maybe even more) than you would find in your own kitchen – Pots, pans, spices, utensils, plates, cups and more. The house was lined in windows, making the rooms feel open and bright.
Outside, at Luray Modern, where this stunning farmhouse house sits on a large plot of land tucked into a valley, were different little nooks to relax and enjoy, like a hammock hanging between two trees & a park bench that was perfect for cow watching. The grass was such a rich green color, while the red, brick house stood as the anchor to our beautiful glamping getaway.
On Saturday, my parents drove down for the day. We cooked out on the outside fireburning grill and visited Lake Arrowhead at the end of our street. The vibes there felt very summer camp, which I loved because I never went to an overnight summer camp. The lake is vast and beautiful and so it its mountainous backdrop. I joked that of course I went to the mountains and found a beach, but it really is a must-see if you’re in the area.
The house has three bedrooms, two in the main house and one in the guest house. I love the large window in the guest house, imagine working from that desk everyday! But the master bedroom really stole my heart. The living space that they created within the room was so unique and comfortable.
The privacy you feel out there is so freeing. It’s almost a strange feeling to me, to be so alone. At home, I see my neighbors all the time. It was only one time we saw people that weekend – They pulled up, dropped off five or six cows, and drove off. The cow drop-off was also a highlight of the weekend for me. The dogs were enamored with them too.
Driving off from Luray Modern on Sunday evening, around 6PM, when the light was just right on a beautiful, sunny day, was bittersweet. I already had so many memories tucked away into this home. Flower’s obsession with watching the cows and trying to get as close to them as she could was the cutest thing. And Gracie just loves being outside, so it was so fun to watch her run free and test how far she could explore until I called her back.
Being able to travel with Wes and the dogs was such a blessing, having them with me is the most comforting thing to me. But the weekend left with me a revived appreciation for my home state, as well as this beautiful world we live in. I feel so lucky to be able to experience them both!
