It’s typical for me to leave New York Fashion Week feeling very inspired by the street style. There were a few standout trends I kept seeing over and over and they ended up inspiring some new purchases. After being in full summer mode for so long (all the linen, straw bags and denim cutoffs), I honestly couldn’t wait to get home to start shopping and refresh my fall wardrobe. Find out what they are and why I love them below, or scroll straight to the bottom to shop my top picks!
White Ankle Booties
One of fall’s less subtle trends, a bold, white ankle boot is a must-have this season. White’s no longer just for spring and summer and I think you might even be surprised how many outfits you’ll be able to put them with. I’ve gotten so much wear out of both my white loafers and my white bag and I know the same will be true with my white booties. They’re perfect with with jeans, dresses and suits.
The Power Suit
Speaking of suits, I was so glad I brought my yellow one to Fashion Week. I slightly under-packed and my suit separates proved to be so versatile. I wore it together as a suit, with just a lacey bralette, and then both the pants and jacket separately with other looks. The most popular kinds of suits right now seem to be plaid and bold colors, like pink! I’ve taken on a new love of pink lately, it just has to be the right piece. A structured pink blazer feels so chic but also like, “Don’t take me too seriously.” If you’re not ready to pull the trigger on a full suit just yet though you should at least start with a good blazer. And, Shopbop actually has a whole section of “Power Pieces” already curated for you here.
This retro-inspired hue is such a fun color to have in your closet this fall. It’s the perfect way to quickly spice up any classic, fall look. Personally, I’ve had my eye on a few mustard colored bags, but I’ve already pulled the trigger on a couple of chunky knits to get things going.
A New Hat
I haven’t been much of a “hat girl,” besides my straw hats in the summer. I never felt like those beautiful, wide brimmed, felt hats looked good on me. But I’m loving all kinds of hats right now! Especially berets and cabby hats. They seem to work nicely with my notoriously messy hair. And I love how this one brought a bit of ’90’s edge to my dressy look here. Anything to dress down a look.
Think faux fur and shearling. It’s all about texture in the fall and one of the reasons I love this season so much. Outfits can get so interesting and exciting fast! I’ve been on the hunt for a shearling coat, but for now I’ve picked up a little, shearling tote bag from Loeffler Randall. This brand has a lot of awesome pieces to choose from in this department, so be sure to check them out.
I was talking about this with my grandma last week. She says, “Leopard print always comes back in every four years.” And I thought about it and realized it has been about just that amount of time since I’ve loved leopard print… And now it’s happening again! I swear, she knows all. To ease your way into this trend, start with a pair of leopard heels, like pumps or booties. They’re so cute with jeans and a striped tee!
