It’s amazing to me how much more I appreciate New Year’s as I get older. I feel like this year, for whatever reason, I was SO excited for it. Maybe because January 1, 2018 will likely be one of the few days of the year that I don’t feel like I’m playing catch up. Ha! Either way, I’m going to enjoy every last minute of it.
In my second year of blogging full time, I’ve learned a lot. The first year it was all new and fun and exciting but the second year was a bit more challenging. But challenging in the best way possible! And I learned a lot about myself. One of the side effects of working (mostly) alone I guess.
I never used to set resolutions but, again, this year I felt like I really wanted to. As the new year approached, I thought about what my resolutions would be and, for once, I was able to come up with plenty of them that I was super excited about. There’s still a bit of a stigma around resolutions I think. But, to me, it feels like setting a reset button on the timer of life and giving yourself the chance of a fresh start can’t hurt! Thinking about both personal and professional goals, accompanied with physically writing them down, helped me pinpoint a few areas where I think I could do better. Just thinking about these changes already has me feeling so inspired! So, to formally document mine, here are my 2018 New Year’s Resolutions:
Become A Morning Person
This one is tricky for me. I’ve never been a morning person. I love to stay up late and I love to sleep. But I want to correct my poor sleeping habits and fast. It gets dark so early now and I’d love a few more hours of daylight. Plus, on days when I do happen to wake up earlier than usual, I always have the best day. So why can’t I have the best day every day? Well, I go to bed way too late for starters. I actually do a lot of work late at night. It’s a terrible habit and not a sustainable one. This week, I’ve already started to tackle this one head-on. I’ve been putting my phone on my dresser at night (instead of on my nightstand), so I have to get up to turn my alarm off in the morning. I’ve also been drinking Chamomile Tea after dinner to help me wind down and fall asleep. I read that 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar also helps, so I’m going to try that to. I’ll be sure to keep you posted. Any tips or tricks you might have for this would be much appreciated!
I have a tendency to rush through things. Life can be so fast paced and it sometimes feels hard to keep up. I’m using the new year to reset my “speed.” To tackle this one, I’m going to try to be more mindful of my intentions. I want to be clear and conscious of my actions before doing them. Working out really helps me disconnect, slow down, and refocus my intentions. I’ll continue to workout regularly to help with this one, while trying to develop more ways to slow things down a bit. Any suggestions for me?
Build A Community!
I love getting to know each one of you who has reached out to me. Especially, those of you who reach out to me on a more consistent basis (You know who you are!). One of my biggest goals for 2018 is to build a community via this blog and my Instagram. This one I’m not exactly sure how I’m going to do yet, but I’m determined to make it happen. I never want you to feel like I’m talking at you, but with you. From handbags to health, I want us all to be in this game of life together. So, what should we talk about? 🙂
Wes owns the condo we live in, but lately we’ve been talking about where we want to live (Once we maybe outgrow our two bedroom condo and start a family – eek, I honestly can’t believe I just said that!) and what kind of house we want to buy. So, it’s time for me to get more conscious and strategic about saving! I’ve always been able to save money because I’ve had at least two, or three, different sources of income (I used to work a full-time job, blog, I sold Stella & Dot for a couple of years and I do freelance social media management). Since I’ve been focusing on the blog full time now, I don’t have all of the extra income that I’m used to having and I need to make up for it by saving more. For you guys, this means I’ll be on the hunt for more budget-friendly finds and sharing them with you.
Do you set New Year’s Resolutions? I’d love to know your thoughts on them!
