“Traveling” In Style

Sometimes, the best places to see are in our own backyard.  I grew up so close to our nation’s capital, yet there’s so much of it I have yet to see!  Every year, hundreds of thousands of people come to visit and, I’m sure, many have seen more of DC than I have.  Now, I’ve made exploring my own city a top priority and it’s really paid off.  Enter, this beautiful “secret” garden!

Dumbarton Oaks is a historic estate surrounded by a beautiful garden in the heart of Georgetown.  The garden’s landscape architect said she was inspired by her travels in Europe and, more specifically, Italian Renaissance gardens.  I can tell you from experience, as soon as you walk through the gates at Dumbarton Oaks, you’re instantly transported to another place – No passport needed!

Just like the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks, I frequently use style and, more specifically, accessorizing to “travel” to another place or time.  A straw fedora or panama hat, like this one by Brixton, is perfect for both traveling the world or exploring your own backyard.  No matter where you are, it adds a luxe and summery flare to your look, like you just stepped off a boat in the South of France.
