My 4 Outfit Essentials This Season ~ NYC Edition

new york blogger style

I was shocked when I asked Instagram what you wanted to see more of – Puerto Rico or New York outfits – and the answer was New York. No more vacay looks?! Okay, fineeee. I get it though, whenever I travel to New York I find myself gravitating to a specific look that’s more minimal and chic and you can’t beat those big-city backdrops. So I thought I’d talk through a bit of what went through my mind when packing and styling looks.

I’m usually in New York for work these days (which made me realize I need to plan a personal trip soon, btw) and I’m cramming the most in while I’m there. I’ll usually spend the entire day in the same outfit with no time to change before dinner. So I try really hard to make sure everything I pack is comfortable and wearable. No outfits just “for the gram.” I can’t even count how many times I’ve been in New York, all dressed up, miserable wearing uncomfortable clothes and shoes. I promised myself I would cut that out. Boxy Blazers

I love a boxy blazer. And whenever I wear one it makes me think of the “business woman special” from “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion”. A good blazer can really stand on it’s own, so you don’t have to worry as much about the rest of your look. Keep it simple! I love one with biker shorts and a cropped top or boyfriend jeans and a tee. For me, a blazer is a great way to take a look from day to night too. It’s professional and put together for meetings during the day and then I can either add fun earrings or a bold lip for a night out (And when I say out, I mean like dinner and in bed by 11!).

Comfortable Shoes

This is the *most* crucial packing tip. It’s nothing groundbreaking but I know the temptation is there – You’re going to New York and you want to wear your most fabulous heels. Just. Don’t. Do. It. It’s not worth it! Unless you take a photo and then change immediately, ha ha. I love a low, block or kitten heel, or sneakers. Currently I’m really into anything PVC because they don’t cut your legs off and actually elongate it instead, eliminating the need to even wear a higher heel. I also really love a birkenstock or teva-like flat sandal (like these). Super cute paired with dresses!

Mini or Smaller Bags

I have zero interest in lugging around a huge uncomfortable bag with me all day in the city. A tote bag seems practical, since I’m going to be out and about all day, but it’s an automatic no-go for me. Lucky for me, mini bags are trendy right now and it’s really all I need. Anything that fits my small card holder wallet, a lipstick and cream blush stick, and my charger works for me. I rather carry less and not strain my shoulders and back all day.

Chic Sunnies

Think of Audrey Hepburn. She always wore black, thicker frames. They just work with the New York City vibe! That’s why I always, always bring my Celine cat eye sunglasses with me (Affordable option here). I also recently got a more oval, retro pair from Quay that I love.
